Former Sherman Hospital site turned over to loan company: Elgin Courier-News

The property was seized in March and no property taxes have been paid this year, according to the Courier-News report.

A Kane County judge last week approved an order allowing Westridge Lending LLC to take control of the property and close the foreclosure case, according to the report. A deed dated Aug. 8 lists Westridge as the owner, according to the Courier-News report.

A lawyer for Westridge declined to comment to the Courier-News.

One of the defendants listed in the seizure was John Thomas, who founded Freedom Development Group, according to the report.

Thomas served two years in federal prison after being convicted in 2015 of stealing $375,000 in taxpayer money earmarked for a marina development, according to the Courier-News report. In the early 2000s, he was convicted of fraud in New York under another name, according to a Chicago Tribune article, the Courier-News reported.

Thomas was an informant for the federal government and carried a wire to register former business associate Antoin “Tony” Rezko involving the investigation of former Governor Rod Blagojevich, according to the Courier-News report.

A lawyer listed in court records representing Thomas declined to comment, according to the report.
