It gets even worse when debt collectors start contacting people who have been signed up as guarantors without their knowledge or calling random people on the lender’s contact list.

Terryanne Chebet, an entrepreneur and influencer, was the latest victim of such incidents after receiving a message asking her to repay a loan someone else had taken out.

“Greetings! You have been listed as an emergency contact at MYKES Company by Caroline 07.. a loan of 12792/- which she is unwilling to repay,” read the message she shared on Twitter. .

“Tell her to clear her loan, or you will be held accountable per the agreement between you and her. Who are these MYKES jokers?” the message read on.
